Some Like It Hot....

During my teenage years I practiced yoga every day. The sessions were often the highlight of my daily schedule and they're probably the reason I stayed sane (regardless of who says otherwise) throughout O'Levels ;D.

Once I moved to the US and started college, my routine changed and out went the daily yoga sessions.....and in came the chaos. Thankfully, badminton and swimming came to my rescue and helped me to maintain some type of exercise regime.

A few months ago I restarted my yoga sessions, but didn't fully commit to a daily routine. I guess it was because I never completely got back into that groove of NEEDING exercise to help me get through my day. I would do cardio and a lap (or two when I had the stamina) around the Queen's Park Savannah twice a week...but that was it.

WELLLL, a few weeks ago I began experiencing a very familiar and UNCOMFORTABLE sensation across my shoulders, neck and back. I am one of those individuals who store tension in the aforementioned regions, and trust me when I tell you that it is NOT A GOOD FEELING. Not wanting to wait for someone to touch me and have to ask if I was going up for Ms. Body Building Universe with my hard shoulders, I decided to get back on the de-stressing train.

ENTER MOKSHA YOGA TRINIDAD!!! I had seen their ad in the newspapers a while back and made a mental note to try them out. A quick Google search led me to their website www.mokshayogatrinidad.com and I was on my way ;D.

I had my first class yesterday and it was FANTASTIC. I forgot just how relaxing yoga can be. I did the 1 hour session and I'm thankful I didn't play superwoman and do the 90min. session because I promise you that I went temporarily deaf at least 3 times as a result of trying some of those poses........I AM DEAD SERIOUS.

Temporary deafness aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the yoga session.....so much so that I bought myself a mat (and carrier) to ensure that I stick with yoga whether at home or at Moksha Yoga.

Moksha Hot Yoga is pretty much what the name implies; yoga practiced in a hot/heated room. The heat helps to relax the muscles and brings greater relief. According to their website, "The series works to stretch, strengthen and tone the muscles while detoxifying the body and calming the mind."

A SECTION OF ONE OF THE HEATED YOGA STUDIOS.

Moksha Yoga Trinidad is located at 103 Tragarete Road (next to IF House). They currently have a promotion running where you pay $30 for your first session and take "any number of yoga classes within the next seven (7) consecutive days from the date of purchase...for FREE!!!"

The website has lots of additional information for anyone interested in trying a class. Below are some photos I took after my session....and before I went home and slept like a baby ;)

YOGA MATS ON SALE. MATS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENT @ $5TT.

 USEFUL YOGA ITEMS ON SALE

 PART OF THE CHANGING ROOM.

WARMING UP FOR CAPOEIRA...KARATE, SALSA DANCING & OTHER CLASSES ARE ALSO OFFERED.

My plan for now is to stick to yoga and squeeze in some laps around the QPS on alternate days. I'm hoping that Yoga + Running + Proper diet = Healthy Me.........and noteworthy Carnival body lol. I'll let you know how it goes.......Nitey Nite ;D

I am so excited. My favourite instructors are Troy and Karen. The 4:30 afternoon class is pressure because the combination of the sun and the heat of the room, woo saa, but I love it. Due to some recent changes in my schedule I have not been practicing as often as I would like. This is inspiration for me to get going again. Thanks.

Oooh, I could NOT do the 4:30PM temperature AND that heat at all lol...I admire you for even trying :).

I go for any class after 5PM because then I don't have to worry about rushing to class after work or carrying my yoga stuff to work with me.

You've got me excited now because my class this afternoon is actually with Karen :D....I had Rose on Monday and she was great so you can try a class with her as well.

I like how you document your blog with photos.

Yoga can be fun and I also had fun with Yoga because of the outfits some of the women wore and poses they would get into.

Generally, Yoga leads to a better body and more flexible personality since it calms the nerves and makes one more agreeable. I think we all need yoga to weather this latest, and eternal crisis called Government.
